About the artist
Richard Orlinski
French, b. 1966
Richard Orlinski makes animals you recognise from across a room. Born in Paris in 1966, he pares a gorilla, a panther or a crocodile down to a few clean-cut planes and one confident color, so that the silhouette speaks before any detail does. He calls this world Born Wild: the force of instinct, turned into something joyful rather than menacing.
It began in 2004 with a crocodile in red resin. Since then the same faceted language has given us Wild Kong, the bears, the stiletto and the pop icons, in resin, polished aluminum, bronze and crystal-clear epoxy. Almost every model comes in several sizes, from a piece for a console table to a monumental work for a garden or a lobby — which is what these screens let you explore: pick a model, a size and a color, and see whether it is ready to go home with you or made to order.
His sculptures stand in city squares and private collections around the world, and France has named him an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. Markowicz Fine Art has presented his work in the United States since 2015 — first in Miami, then in Dallas with Born Wild in Texas — and now in Beverly Hills.
